WELCOME TO ONLINE TUTORING FOR MATH & PHYSICS

Julia home page photo

Welcome to Physics and Math Online Tutoring! My name is Julia, and in addition to being a mathematics department head, I teach the following main subjects:

• IB Physics teacher (certified)
• IB Mathematics teacher (certified)

The following courses are the main ones requested for tutoring. If your subject is not listed below, you can always contact me using the form at the bottom of the page and ask.

Note: the course code in brackets is that which is used in the Ontario curriculum. If you are here from a different province or country, don’t worry! Physics and Mathematics are not like Language and Geography that change from place to place, they’re the same! Simply contact me with your location and course name and we’ll figure it out.

PHYSICS COURSES

• IB Physics
• Grade 11 Physics (SPH3U)
• Grade 12 Physics (SPH4U)

MATH COURSES

• IB Mathematics
• Grade 11 Functions (MCR3U)
• Grade 12 Advanced Functions (MHF4U)
• Grade 12 Calculus & Vectors (MCV4U)
• Grade 9 Mathematics (MPM1D)
• Grade 10 Mathematics (MPM2D)

Being in a class of 20 or 30+ students, it’s not easy to find time to ask your teacher questions, as they have so many students to tend to. Now with the current world health crisis, students are learning remotely, which diminishes the student-teacher interaction even more.

Something positive came out of all this, and that was the push toward remote tutoring: this means that not only do you not have to spend time and money commuting to and from your tutoring sessions, tutors like myself are able to help students from different regions.

While some teachers have become understanding in their expectations of evaluations this year, one must remember that Universities and Colleges continue to maintain their high levels of excellence and standards. Which means, even if a student does well at the high school level due to different units not getting covered in an otherwise difficult course, they will become broken when they enter first year university. Almost one-fifth of students from Canadian post-secondary institutions drop out their first year, with many others struggling to stay afloat.

This can be avoided by having students enter post-secondary institutions with sound knowledge and understanding of the appropriate prerequisite knowledge from secondary school.

I am here to help you bridge that gap and complete your understanding and develop your critical thinking skills.

Looking forward to working with you!

SAMPLE PHYSICS TUTORIAL

Here is a preview of my Physics in the Flesh YouTube Channel, where I am solving how to calculate the magnetic force on a moving charge. This is a typical problem from the Electricity and Magnetism unit in Grade 12 Physics (SPH4U).

Above is a lesson from the last unit in Calculus and Vectors (MCV4U), on Equations and Planes. Get a sense of my teaching style in this high level mathematics course.
